Cells divide to let your body grow and promotes renewal of the body tissues. Cells divide to grow the body and promote the regeneration of body tissues. It is the process where the parent cell divides into two cells, called the daughter cells. During the process, the parent cell continuously pinches in the middle to separate and eventually produce daughter cells.
There are two types of cell division: mitosis and meiosis.
- Mitosis is a process of cell division, in which one cell divides into two genetically identical daughter cells. In the various stages of mitosis, the cell’s chromosomes are copied and then distributed equally between the two new nuclei of the daughter cells.
- Meiosis is a type of cell division of germ cells in sexually-reproducing organisms that produces the gametes, such as sperm or egg cells. In this division, number of chromosomes are reduced to half in the parent cell and four gamete cells are produced
