Genetic testing is rapidly gaining popularity in India. It was earlier done at an exorbitant price ranging between Rs 2 lakh to Rs 2.5 lakh in India until a few years ago. Most of these tests are now performed in India at a starting price of Rs 3,000 (single gene test) and goes up to Rs 60-70,000 per test (comprehensive genetic testing).

Genetic testing results can usually be obtained within a few weeks. In case of prenatal screening for genetic disorders in the fetus, it takes at least a week or more for the results to be obtained. This is because the sample has to be sent to a genetics laboratory in this case.
