The management of genetic disease can be divided into counselling, diagnosis, and treatment.
Gene therapy is used to correct defective genes in order to cure a disease or help your body better fight disease. Researchers are investigating several ways to do this; one way is by replacing the mutated gene. Some cells become sick because certain genes don’t work or stop working.
For many of the genetic disorders, the treatment and management are designed to improve particular signs and symptoms associated with the disease.
Whereas some genetic disorders tend to increase the risk of future health problems in an individual, e.g. certain types of cancers (such as familial breast cancer). These are managed with constant screening procedures and surgery when required.
