Is eye color determined by genetics?

Eye color is determined by genetic attributes passed down from the parents to the offspring. Eye color is predominantly associated with the production, transport, and storage of the pigment, melanin. The amount of pigment in the front layers of the iris give eyes their color and we see a variation from black, brown or blue.

High levels of the brown melanin pigment results in brown eyes while in lower levels, it gives blue color to the eyes. What is surprising in the inheritance of eye color is that the offspring of two blue-eyed parents is seen to inherit brown eyes!
